Lately, it seems that humanity is swimming in a sea of misinformation, as the shoreline of rationalism recedes in the distance. But CFIC provides a beacon for people who value critical thinking about world events, believe that a rational and scientific approach offers the best solutions, and have a secular worldview. I am convinced that when provided with the appropriate information, the majority of people will make good decisions; critical thinking based on reliable information is the key to better decision making. Our challenge is to help people develop the skills they need to identify good information and reject misinformation.
That’s why I support CFIC with my time and my donations. CFIC reminds me that there are other critical thinkers like you out there. CFIC helps make connections, virtually and physically, between people who understand that the grim realities of the world cannot be simply wished away, and who know that believing things that are untrue will never make them true. CFIC helps people differentiate between good information and misinformation.
Each year, beginning on Giving Tuesday and throughout the month of December, CFIC asks supporters, volunteers, readers, followers, and members to consider us when planning their year end donations. This year, our December campaign is more important than ever. CFIC is a lighthouse for Canadians committed to seeing that truth wins.
Throughout the year CFIC brought you information that enlightened, educated and often entertained. CFIC knows that solutions to the apparently intractable problems of the world involve science, research and co-operative effort. CFIC’s goal is to be a steadfast beacon of reliable, rational information: a place where other weary travelers know they will find common sense and camaraderie.
We appreciate your commitment to science, secularism and critical thinking. Now, CFIC is asking if you will help a little more.
I give to CFIC every month. It is an easy way for me to ensure that my support is continuous and that CFIC knows they can count on me. This year, I’m giving a bit more at the end of the year. I know that this is critical to ensuring that CFIC continues to support the fight against misinformation, rhetoric, and religious superstition.
Beginning today, on Giving Tuesday and throughout the month of December, CFIC will be sharing information about the world we find ourselves in and what can be done to help keep Canadians afloat while so many in the world are at risk of drowning in the sea of misinformation. CFIC will be asking for your help so that we can continue to shine a light on truth, to provide information about how to cut through the rhetoric and false news. Please give what you can.
