Your privacy is important to us. This privacy statement explains the personal data Centre for Inquiry Canada collects, and how it is processed and used.
What is Personal Data?
Your personal data includes information that could directly or indirectly be used to identify you, including name, postal address, email address, telephone number, credit card number, location data, website usage history, other online identifiers.
How Does CFIC Handle Personal Data?
CFIC is in compliance with CASL, the Canadian anti-spam legislation (https://crtc.gc.ca/eng/internet/anti.htm) . We use Constant Contact to manage our mailing list. Subscribers sign up (by providing their email address and additional optional information) to receive our monthly newsletter, as well as fundraising and other information of interest to subscribers, donors, and members. Constant Contact collects information about actions taken in response to our emails (including the newsletter), including links visited. We offer other options for viewing our newsletter for those who choose to opt out of this tracking. CFIC also uses event management websites/apps such as Meetup, Eventbrite, and Meta (Facebook). We do not explicitly share any information we have collected with third parties, however information provided within other websites and apps is not under our direct control, and as such is subject to the policies set by those websites/apps, and the laws and policies that govern the regions in which they are based.
CFIC collects optional data from people who donate or purchase memberships. All financial information is handled through secure third-party partners such as Canada Helps and PayPal. CFIC does not store or collect any personal financial information such as credit cards, bank account numbers, etc. As a CRA-registered charity (CRN: 83364 2614 RR0001), we collect names and addresses for those donors and members who choose to be issued official tax receipts, however we also gratefully accept anonymous donations. Subscribers can opt out of mailings at any time. CFIC will provide income tax receipts to individuals, even if they have opted out of receiving email.
CFIC collects aggregate data about the number of “visits” to our website, the length of those visits and the pages viewed. This information is used to gauge interest in the information we are providing and to internally report on the number of visitors to our site. Unless stated otherwise, we also collect information about the people who complete surveys or fill out forms. For those who choose to comment, we record the name and email address (as provided by the commenter), as well as the IP address (automatically detected). Those who would like to comment without being identified are welcome to use third-party anonymizers.
Management of Personal Data
