CFI Branches have worked with people in the LGBTQ community, and their allies, across Canada and throughout the world.
In December 2012 , CFI members from across North America participated in a protest march at the Ugandan embassy in Ottawa.
In Ontario, CFI has worked together with other groups to bring about societal change, such as the adoption of Ontario’s “Accepting Schools Act “. Since this act became law, all students are guaranteed under the law a safer school environment where they will finally have the right to form Gay/Straight Alliances if they so desire. But the battle is not over yet – in June 2013, Kevin Smith, Chair of the CFI Board, met with Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynn to discusses the lingering problems with some publicly funded Catholic schools denying students the right to form gay/straight alliances which they are entitled to by law.
In Alberta CFI has challenged the government to set aside ancient prejudices and embrace its vibrant community of homosexuals.
Across Canada, CFI members march with our LGBTQ sisters and brothers in local Pride Parades.
