The Canadian High Commission in New Delhi has approved a Single Journey Travel Document (SJTD) for Omer and he is waiting for it to be couriered to him. The next step after this SJTD is received is to get an exit permit from Nepal’s Minister of Home Affairs and then travel can be arranged to finally get Omer safely to Canada.
After a tense week due to civil unrest in Nepal and the resignation of the Home Minister (who is required to sign Omer’s exit permit) a new Home Minister is in place and now Omer continues to wait for the Canadian High Commission to act.
A member of the RMA refugee sponsorship group has been communicating with a caseworker in the office of a Calgary Member of Parliament to work on Omer’s behalf. This involves communicating with IRCC agents to expedite issuing of the SJTD as well as looking into the feasibility of composing a letter from the MP to the Nepal Minister of Home Affairs to encourage a swift issue of the exit permit (a process that normally could take many weeks).
RMA is in almost daily contact with Omer. Both members of RMA and Omer himself are incredibly frustrated with the continuing delays and very grateful to the people who donate. (Note: if you are donating to help Omer, please be sure to direct the funds to CFIC’s Assistance for Apostates (A4A) program or to add a note “For Omer.”)
Thanks for the update. I hope we can welcome Omer to Canada very soon.
