Omer reports that he is fully recovered from earlier health challenges and his doctors have now given him permission to travel further from the city and hospital. The timing of Omer’s relocation to Canada remains frustratingly elusive. Our friends from the Atheist Society of Calgary, Omer’s Group of Five sponsors, have submitted an inquiry to Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada, asking about timing. We hope to have more to report next month.
Omer’s long stay in Nepal is just one of the reasons our friends at SCS petitioned the government to include atheist refugees in Canada’s Less Complex Claims refugee policy. Disappointingly, this petition died on the table when the federal election was called this summer. Our MP sponsor has agreed to sponsor us again, so we are on the way to re-submitting it. Please watch as SCS and partners relaunch the campaign for signatures in the coming days.
