On August 13, Omer will turn 35. He has spent far too many of his 35 years either running or hiding. The last time Omer enjoyed a “normal” birthday, with family and friends, was in 2011, when he turned 24, before he publicly questioned Islam. (You can read Omer’s full story here.)
Once again this year, Omer’s birthday will be a quiet affair. Omer is a dog lover, so on his birthday (and on many other occasions when he feels low) he visits a dog shelter and enjoys the companionship of some furry friends.
Omer visited the United Nations High Commission on Refugees (UNHCR) earlier this month. They had little to report, other than that they were awaiting instructions from the Canadian High Commission in New Delhi about further steps.
Thanks to our growing number of donors for your monthly and one-time gifts that have allowed us to support Omer since January of 2021. We need just a few more dollars to ensure that we can continue to offer this support until the end of the year, by which time we are hopeful that Omer will arrive in Canada.
Here’s hoping Omer’s 36th birthday will be met with much fanfare and celebration!
