Adults and kids are welcome to join this event. (Parents, please stay with your kids for this one.)

Come on a hike with geologist, James Barr, at Gallagher’s Canyon in Scenic Canyon Regional Park to see some interesting rock formations!

James is Professional Geoscientist who has worked in the mineral exploration and mine development industry for the past twelve years. He has worked all across Canada, including the northern territories, Mexico and Tanzania. He moved to Kelowna in April of this year with his family. James enjoys exploring all of the exciting features in the area with his two kids (4 and 2 yrs) and is looking forward to make some new discoveries with you.

Kids: Bring a rock or two from your collection and ask him to identify them for you! Maybe you can stump him. 😉 Don’t bring anything too precious, and make sure they fit in your pocket! You’re going to need to carry them on your hike. 🙂

Don’t forget a water bottle and maybe a snack. And dress for the weather. We will hike down into the canyon, stop for a rest and to ask James any questions, before hiking back up.

If you collect DIY patches, this activity can count towards your Geologist patch. Perhaps you could complete the “Identify a rock” skill or the “Talk with a geologist” skill: https://diy.org/skills/geologist

Park in the lot at the end of Field Rd – this is where the trail leads down to the canyon. You can search for the destination on Google Maps by entering the address 3801 Field Rd, Kelowna.
