CFIC T.O. Science & Philosophy Book Club – “god is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything” by Christopher Hitchens
This group is hosted by CFI Canada members Christine Gagnon and Vlad Bunea at our National Headquarters, 55 Eglinton Ave E., Suite 307, Buzzer Code 49, from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. Suggested donation is $5. There is an after-event at a location near the office.
The goal is to provide a friendly, free-thinking environment in which to discuss books that inspire rewarding conversation on subjects related to science and philosophy.
This month we look at a pillar, a cornerstone, a mainstay in the New (Gnu) Atheist movement written by, arguably, the most popular of the Four Horsemen, Christopher Hitchens: god is not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything.
Publishers Weekly said of the book: “Hitchens, one of our great political pugilists, delivers the best of the recent rash of atheist manifestos. The same contrarian spirit that makes him delightful reading as a political commentator…makes him an entertaining huckster prosecutor once he has god placed in the dock.”`
Eye Weekly said, “[Hitchens is] an intellectual pugilist, and in god is Not Great he kicks sand in the face of the biggest bully of all: religion.”
