Dangerous Dilutions

Dangerous Dilutions

CFI Launches Dangerous Dilutions Project

CFI Canada inquires into the role that pseudo-scientific health services play in the lives – and deaths – of their clients.  Pseudo-scientific health services seem to be playing an ever-greater role in mainstream society, governments and universities.  These services, which often have no greater effect than a placebo, may lead to harm for people and for society.

Pseudo-scientific health services, such as homeopathy, are not only diluting their “treatments”, they’re diluting the healthcare system.  CFIC’s Dangerous Dilutions Project is an inquiry into the impact of these service providers – and the responsibilities and accountabilities that should be placed upon these service providers when they sell their services.

CFIC encourages you to submit pseudo-scientific health services and claims to info@cficanada.ca .  All tips and questions will be maintained confidential.  CFIC volunteers will investigate all tips, questions or claims and report our findings.

Are Organized Religions a Possible Public Health Hazard “Vector”? Apparently we have our job to do…

During CFI Canada’s monitoring of public health concerns such as anti-vaccination proponents, we often encounter pseudo-scientific claims and fears from people who either ignore or don’t understand the science behind vaccination and immunization.  However, we’ve lately also noticed an increase in the troubling incursion of religion in this area of public health and healthcare.

Bill Nye the Science Guy vs Ken Ham the Young Earth Creationist

Posted on February 7, 2014March 3, 2015 By Centre for Inquiry Canada Ottawa
Bill Nye the Science Guy vs Ken Ham the Young Earth Creationist

About 17 people in Ottawa got together for a group viewing of the Nye vs Ham debate. We ate bowtie pasta, pea soup with ham, black hole black bean dip, and we had a drinking game (using keywords like “kinds”, “creation”, “were you there”, mentions of numbers of years, etc).

Ham talked about how Christianity was crumbling because of people questioning the literal truths proclaimed in genesis. Nye talked about the scientific approach to knowledge used by people in “the outside world”. That one phrase encapsulates the brilliance of Nye`s approach. Someone like Dawkins would probably have used the phrase “the real world”, which both creationists and fence-sitters would have found insulting and demeaning. Nye’s term was rather more neutral (and also fed into the belief of many Christians that they are set apart as the people of God).
