February 2023 Dates of Interest

Posted on January 31, 2023March 31, 2024 By Critical Links 1 Comment on February 2023 Dates of Interest

February is Black History Month.

February is also Heart & Stroke Month, and on Feb 13 the focus is on heart health for women.

February 1 to 7 is Eating Disorders Awareness Week.

On February 1, Comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF), aka “The Green Comet,” reaches perigee, and is expected to be visible to the naked eye in early February. (Or if you can’t get outside, you can watch it wherever you are through a virtual telescope.)

On Feb 2, rather than thinking about weather-forecasting with groundhogs, let’s spare a thought for the plants and animals waiting patiently under the ice and snow for spring to return, and celebrate World Wetlands Day.

February 12 marks 214 years since the birth of Charles Darwin. Check here to find out more about local happenings and virtual events.

February 19 to 25 is Freedom to Read Week, an annual event that encourages Canadians to think about and reaffirm their commitment to intellectual freedom, as guaranteed under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

February 23 is Pink Shirt Day, designated for raising awareness about bullying.
February 23 is also World Spay Day. Help prevent unwanted animal overpopulation by having your pets spayed or neutered.

If you celebrate any of these, or have suggestions for upcoming celebrations or observances, please drop us a line or send a picture to CriticalLinks@centreforinquiry.ca.
