Update from Omer — February 2022

Posted on January 31, 2022March 31, 2024 By Critical Links 1 Comment on Update from Omer — February 2022

Finally! Omer has some promising news. He received his Interim Federal Health Certificate of Eligibility. This was sent to him as it covers his Immigration Medical Examination and other pre-departure medical services, as well as coverage for a period of time once he arrives in Canada. We hope that we are not being overly optimistic in taking this as a sign that his case is finally moving forward.

On January 22, Omer’s sponsors from Atheist Society of Canada (ASC) and representatives from Refugee Sponsorship Training Program (RSTP) teamed up to offer a workshop on how to become a Group of Five, as part of Canada’s private sponsorship program. Brent Loubert from ASC discussed how much they are looking forward to Omer’s arrival in Canada. We will certainly all celebrate when this happens. Neither ASC nor CFIC could have carried out their part in this rescue without the support of international organizations supporting refugees, and, of course, our many donors!

If you missed the sponsorship seminar, watch for the recording on the CFIC YouTube channel. You might be surprised how easy it is to become a sponsor.
