January 2023 Dates of Interest

Posted on December 29, 2022December 31, 2022 By Sandra Dunham

January 2 is World Introvert Day.

January 4 is perihelion — the Earth’s closest approach to the sun.

January 4 is also the date of the first meteor shower of the year, the Quadrantids.

January 14 is World Logic Day. The date was chosen in honour of two philosopher-mathematicians. It is the anniversary of the birth of Alfred Tarski and Kurt Gödel.

January 17 is Raoul Wallenberg day, commemorating the selfless bravery of this Swedish diplomat (also an honourary Canadian citizen) who took the initiative to save thousands of persecuted Jews during the Second World War.

January 21 is Lincoln Alexander day, recognizing the contributions of Canada’s first Black Member of Parliament, Cabinet minister, and Lieutenant Governor of Ontario.

CFIC likes asking questions; but 22 January is designated as a day to answer questions (from your cat).

January 24 is the United Nations International Day of Education.

January 25 is Let’s Talk Day — a day designated for discussing mental health.

January 27 is International Holocaust Remembrance day, marking the 78th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp.
