I’m sure that you will all agree that in many ways, 2023 was a difficult year. Trust in science was eroded, secularism was set back, and human rights were increasingly violated. We want to remind people of the impact that religion-based decision making, ignorance of science, and lack of critical thinking have had on global issues. We are concerned about the spread of misinformation and apparent increase in self-interested decisions being made by people in positions of power. We are heartbroken about current wars and concerned about the increasing number and size of global conflicts. And we are devastated that in spite of the increasing evidence of global warming, the world seems incapable of doing anything about it.
