CFIC in the Media

dollar sign with religious symbolsThe CFIC Cost of Religion series has captured the attention of Canadians. CFIC has been featured in Canada’s media frequently as a result.

Our Executive Director of Development, Sandra Dunham, was interviewed in May by the Winnipeg Free Press, and later in June, on CJAD radio in Montreal, about whether religious organizations should maintain their charitable status.  You can listen to the latter interview here.

CFIC’s Secular Chair, Leslie Rosenblood, was interviewed for a Yahoo! Canada article that asked, “Why are provinces still funding religion-based institutions?” He also appeared live on Ryan Jespersen to discuss whether churches should pay taxes.  The conversation, with Brian Dijkema of the Cardus Institute, lasts approximately 40 minutes, and starts at around the 16:15 mark. He was also quoted in this Saanich News article about the BC Humanist Association’s push to eliminate the clergy housing tax deduction, which costs the federal government approximately $100 million per year.

The Cost of Religion in Canada report series will conclude later this summer. Please read and share.

Yes, all aspects of churches in Canada need to be looked at.
