April 2021 Dates of Interest

Posted on March 28, 2021March 31, 2021 By Critical Links

April is Stress Awareness Month, seeking to help understand and encourage the development of healthy strategies for coping.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, “an annual campaign to raise public awareness about sexual assault and educate communities and individuals on how to prevent sexual violence.”

In some corners, April 1 is Atheist Day. “Some corners,” because it turns out that the story is based on a hoax. Some still choose to celebrate. Maybe one day we all will.

Beware! April 1 is also April Fools’ Day, the international day of pranks, and an actual civic holiday in Odessa, Ukraine.

April 2 is Autism Awareness Day, which aims “to increase understanding and acceptance of people with autism, foster worldwide support and inspire a kinder, more inclusive world.”

April 4 is Refugee Rights Day, which aims to “bring attention to the 1985 Supreme Court of Canada ruling recognizing that refugee claimants are entitled to fundamental justice.”

Baseball fans might know that April 15 is Jackie Robinson Day, which celebrates the debut of the first African-American player in Major League Baseball history. As a happy coincidence, April 15 also happens to be National High Five Day when we’re encouraged to spread positivity.

Dude! April 20 is 420, a celebration of cannabis and cannabis culture.

April 22 is Earth Day, a celebration of positive climate and environmental action. For those passionate about getting involved, there are many ways.

April 30 is Adopt a Shelter Pet Day, which seeks to “raise awareness about the many pets waiting to be adopted.”
