October 2024 Dates

Posted on September 27, 2024October 1, 2024 By Critical Links

October 1 is National Seniors’ Day in Canada, and the UN’s International Day of Older Persons

October 4-10 is World Space Week.  This year’s theme is Space & Climate Change

Use it or lose it:  October 6 is International Noodle Day.

October 11 is the UN’s International Day of the Girl. This year’s theme: ‘Girls’ vision for the future’.

October 15 is Global Handwashing Day.  Yes, handwashing is still important.

October 27 is International Religious Freedom Day.  The UN’s Human Rights Committee states that freedom of religion includes freedom from religion, protecting “theistic, non-theistic and atheistic beliefs, as well as the right not to profess any religion or belief.”

On October 28, 1914, Jonas Salk was born. He went on to develop one of two polio vaccines, which proved to be effective at preventing what was at the time one of the most dreaded childhood diseases. (Vaccines continue to be the best public health measure that humans have developed.)

October 31 is Knock-Knock joke day, perhaps so designated because of all the little ghosts, goblins, and superheroes who may be at our doors this evening.   (I don’t know who invented the knock-knock joke, but they probably should have won the No-bell prize!)

If you celebrate any of these, or have suggestions for upcoming celebrations or observances, please drop us a line or send a picture to CriticalLinks@centreforinquiry.ca.
