  • 2022’s second total lunar eclipse is on November 8, starting at 3am Eastern time.
  • November 14 is World Diabetes Day. It has been over 100 years since the first human was injected with insulin to treat diabetes.
  • The Leonid meteor shower arrives in mid-November, this year peaking overnight on the 16th to 17th, with an expected rate of 10 to 15 meteors per hour.
  • November 18 to 24 is World Antimicrobial Awareness Week. Overuse of antibiotics and other antimicrobials increases the likelihood that infectious agents become increasingly difficult to treat due to drug resistance.
  • November 24 is the anniversary of the 1859 publication of Charles Darwin’s On the Origin of Species by Natural Selection.
  • November 25 is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. “At a time when the world is facing an unprecedented  health, economic and social crisis, we must not forget that the COVID-19 pandemic is superimposed on a ‘shadow pandemic’, that of violence against girls and women.”
  • Famous November birthdays:
    • Nov 3, 1718: John Montagu, Fourth Earl of Sandwich and the inventor of the sandwich.
    • Nov 7, 1867: Marie Curie, Nobel laureate and “mother of modern physics”.
    • Nov 8, 1656: Edmund Halley, comet discoverer, and Britain’s second Astronomer Royal.
    • Nov 27, 1701: Anders Celsius, Swedish scientist who invented the centigrade temperature scale.

    • Nov 2, 1955: Kermit the Frog.
    • Nov 10, 1981: Trivial Pursuit (board game).
    • Nov 18, 1891: “Third Rail” electric power supply for railroads.
