Appreciative Inquiry: An Approach to Community Development

Appreciative Inquiry is a strengths-based, positive approach to leadership development and organizational change. Appreciative Inquiry can be used by organizations, teams and societies to determine a best way forward through creating a shared vision of the future and having strategic innovation. This presentation will look at the basic tenets and philosophies of Appreciative Inquiry and how it can be used within the change management process. This is an important conversation to have in light of the changes brought by the novel corona virus.

“During my presentation I will provide some examples of how I have used AI in various contexts. Time permitting we may be able to do a short exercise too.”

Patrick Makokoro is a development practitioner with extensive experience working in community and international development. He is a dedicated child rights activist and passionate about social justice issues around the world.

Beginning in 2012, he founded the Zimbabwe Network of Early Childhood Development Actors (ZINECDA)a national umbrella organization for organizations working in the early years sector. Patrick has also carried out research on early childhood and community development which have informed national education policy development.

He has a BA in Community Development from University of South Africa, a Post Graduate Diploma in International Youth and Child Care from the University of Victoria, BC and a MSc in Development Studies. He is a Doctoral Candidate at UVic in the Faculty of Education, Department of Curriculum.

This CFIC Victoria talk will take place on Oct. 28th 2020 Wednesday at 9:00pm EST.
