May Dates of Interest

Posted on April 28, 2023March 31, 2024 By Critical Links 2 Comments on May Dates of Interest

May is Sun Awareness Month. May 8 is Check Your Skin Day, and May 27 is Sunscreen Day.

May 4 is Star Wars Day. May the fourth be with you! This year, it coincides with World Password Day, celebrated on the first Thursday of May. (Note: C3P0R2D2 is probably not a secure password.)

May 5 is African World Heritage Day.

May 7 is National Child and Youth Mental Health Day.

May 8 is World Red Cross Day, honouring the birthday of founder Henry Dunant.

May 17 is World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, marking the anniversary of the signing of the first International Telegraph Convention and the creation of the International Telecommunication Union.

May 21 is International Tea Day, recognizing the long history and deep cultural and economic significance of tea around the world.

May 23 is World Migratory Bird Day. 2023’s theme is water and its importance for migratory birds.

May 23 is also Paper Airplane Day.

This monthly feature recognizes important observances, and amusing ones. But this month, we noticed an unfortunate creep of pseudoscience, as the Government of Canada is officially recognizing reflexology, which, according to Neurologica, is “pure, unadulterated, grade-A nonsense.”

If you celebrate any of these, or have suggestions for upcoming celebrations or observances, please drop us a line or send a picture to CriticalLinks@centreforinquiry.ca.
