Magnify Your Donation. It Matters!

Sandra Dunham

Every year, hundreds of our readers and members make a tax-deductible charitable donation to CFIC. We want you to know that this matters tremendously. Without your donation, CFIC cannot combat pseudoscience, misinformation, and superstition.

It is possible to make your donation go even further. Consider:

  • Many workplaces have funds set aside to match their employees’ donations. You can increase your donation by simply asking your employer to match it.
  • You can direct your United Way donation to CFIC. If your workplace has a United Way program, we’d sure appreciate it if you would think of CFIC when you sign up.

John Varghese, CFIC member, recounts his experience in donating through his workplace campaign:

“As part of the social awareness campaign at work, the HR department sent out an email suggesting that I could amplify my contribution to a cause by using the Benevity portal. The email included simple instructions to set myself up on their interactive dashboard from where I could search for a particular charity or select from a wide range of causes. The intriguing aspect of this whole idea is what I call the ‘win-win-win-win-win’ (!) situation it led to. The first win was for me, because I could find charities that were vetted by both my company and Benevity, allowing me to choose causes that truly mattered (which included CFIC, of course!). The second win was for my company, because it allowed them to brand this social engagement as a value-driven selling point to attract socially engaged and high-performing workforce. The third win was for Benevity, because it supported their ‘purpose with profit’ philosophy that organizations could rally under. The fourth win was for the cause, because they got double the impact of my initial donation. And the final was a win for the actual beneficiary of my donation — whether it is the child who’s life was saved from Yellow Fever because of a simple vaccine supplied by Doctors Without Borders, or the apostate who found a community of welcoming hearts and minds at Centre for Inquiry Canada!”

Whether CFIC is your charity of choice or not (we do hope it is!), please consider supporting your workplace fund-raising campaigns. It’s a great opportunity to make a difference locally and globally.
