June marks the start of 2SLGBTQI+ Pride Season.

June 3, 1924, was the death of Franz Kafka, Bohemian surrealist author.

June 4 is Cheese Day, and also Hug Your Cat Day.

June 7 is UN World Oceans Day.

June 7, 1954, was the death of Alan Turing, British mathematician and the inventor of the computer.

June 8, 1724, was the birth of John Smeaton, British engineer considered the “father of civil engineering.”

June 5 is UNESCO World Environment Day.

June 12 is the UN’s World Day Against Child Labour. 160 million children worldwide are involved in child labour, many in dangerous conditions.

The UN also works to protect the rights of people at the other end of their lives: June 15 is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.

June 20 is World Refugee Day.

June 21 is National Indigenous Peoples Day.

June 23, 2006, was the death of Harriet, a 175-year-old Galápagos tortoise reportedly collected by Charles Darwin.

June 26, 1824, was the birth of William Thomson Kelvin, British physicist who invented the Kelvin temperature scale.

June 28, 1824, was the birth of Paul Broca, French surgeon who identified a speech centre in the brain.
