Happy New Year! Yes, it’s a completely arbitrary day for the start of the calendar used by much of the world. But since it’s a cycle, picking a day that (at least in the Northern Hemisphere) coincides with increasing hours of daylight seems as good a time as any to celebrate the fact that Earth has successfully completed one more revolution around our Sun.
Look up: There’s a total solar eclipse this year. It’s not until April, but now is a good time to start planning if you want to be able to see it. Here are some other celestial events to watch for in 2024.
January 14 is World Logic Day.
January 18 is Thesaurus* Day, celebrated on the anniversary of the birth of Peter Mark Roget.
January 24 is the UN International Day of Education, celebrating and promoting the role of education for peace and development.

* Thesaurus lex is one of the lesser-known dinosaurs. Their favourite treat is synonym buns.
