Inquiry is essential to human rights. In countries enjoying freedom to question ideas, we take this human right for granted. But in many countries questioning the ruling powers is dangerous. Increasing polarization of opinion, both here in Canada and around the world, highlights the need for organizations like CFIC to help people determine where to get information and how to evaluate it. Canada needs an organization like CFIC to remind us of what it looks like to live without freedom of inquiry.
Soon, CFIC (through the generosity of our donors) will enter our fourth year of support for Omer, a refugee exiled in Nepal because he had the courage to publicly express his blasphemous beliefs in Pakistan. We are eagerly awaiting news that Omer will soon be arriving in Canada where, for the first time in his life, he will be free to inquire.
This year we have continued to watch the terrible impact of the Taliban rule of Afghanistan and the devastation that it has wreaked on the lives of people (especially women and girls) who desperately want to inquire. We have also watched the global impact of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the hopelessness of Russian citizens who have long lost the freedom to inquire.
Please support CFIC to promote inquiry to further human rights.
Inquiry… It’s in our name.
