Year-End Charitable Giving Poll Results

Posted on January 5, 2024January 6, 2024 By Critical Links 1 Comment on Year-End Charitable Giving Poll Results

Thanks to everyone who took the time to participate in our survey on year-end charitable giving.

Fully 78 percent of respondents told us that they make charitable donations in December, however the majority of these respondents indicated that they did not give MORE in December than in other months. Of those who do give more in December, most give because they will get a tax receipt early in the new year. Only one respondent indicated that the increase in giving related to the increased frequency of asking. One respondent let us know that they give more to specific charities, especially their local food banks, in December.

Of those who do not give in December, one does not know whether their donations are more concentrated at this time of the year.

One respondent specifically avoids giving in December because of the religious undertones of many campaigns and one does not give to charities at any time of the year.

To those who took the time to complete our poll, thank you!

And, to those who donated to our non-religious themed, year-end campaign (which will result in income tax receipts early in 2024) a sincere thank you! Full disclosure, this is CFIC’s biggest campaign of the year and we depend heavily on your generosity to continue to be Canada’s voice for science, critical thinking and secularism.

Thanks as always for your candid responses. Our surveys are not scientific. We hope that they provide insight into how others think and we like to think that they create better understanding of different opinions. All of our surveys are based on the content of Critical Links.

critical links, critical thinking
