Giving Tuesday is a day during the commercial holiday rush when you are asked to donate to your favourite charities. As you consider charities that are relevant and important to you and to the world, we hope that you will include a donation to CFIC.
Currently, the world feels quite chaotic. We are witnessing unprecedented global unrest where misinformation and division have become pervasive. We are concerned about events that could forever change the way people around the world live. Canadians experienced the effects of climate change first hand over the past year. We have watched in horror as civilians die, victims of wars that are beyond their control. We continually wonder what news is true and what is planted by foreign governments to create unrest. And we are concerned as religious tenets drive public policy and shrink human rights.
CFIC fosters the rational decision-making and critical thinking skills which are essential for making informed, evidence-based decisions which help in everyday life and are crucial for addressing the complex issues around the world.
CFIC promotes secularism. We know that there is a strong, positive correlation between secular governance and quality of life. Canada needs CFIC to push our government to a more secular stance and to call out examples where the government makes decisions that apply differential treatment on the basis of religion.
CFIC promotes science. Over the past years, we have faced many uncomfortable truths: that the planet is warming, and ignoring this fact will not make it go away. That people die from viruses and that vaccination and masking help us to avoid illness and death.
Perhaps most importantly, CFIC promotes critical thinking education that supports the strong leaders of today and nurtures the leaders of tomorrow.
In short, your Centre for Inquiry Canada enhances civic engagement, and helps individuals become active, informed, and responsible citizens, providing an antidote to world chaos. Today, when contemplating your values and how to support charities that matter, please think about CFIC. Your support matters.
