SUMMARY:CFIC T.O. – Science & Philosophy Book Club
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by CFI Canada member Christine Gagnon\, the goal is to provide a friendly\, free-thinking environment in which to discuss books that inspire rewarding conversation on subjects related to science and philosophy. \nIt takes place at our National Headquarters\, 55 Eglinton Ave E.\, Suite 307\, from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. Suggested donation is $5. There is also an after-event at a location near the office and everyone is invited. \nTHIS MONTH’S BOOK SELECTION: What a Plant Knows: A Field Guide to the Senses by Daniel Chamovitz \nHow does a Venus flytrap know when to snap shut? Can an orchid get jet lag? Does a tomato plant feel pain when you pluck a fruit from its vines? And does your favourite fern care whether you play Bach or the Beatles? Combining cutting-edge research with lively storytelling\, biologist Daniel Chamovitz explores how plants experience our shared Earth – through sight\, smell\, touch\, hearing\, memory\, and even awareness. Whether you are a green thumb\, a science buff\, a vegetarian\, or simply a nature lover\, this rare inside look at the life of plants will surprise and delight. (goodreads.com) \n
