May 3, 2026(2 events) 12:00 pm: Living Without Religon – Hosted by Virtual Branch –
Living without Religion (LWR) is a monthly peer support group for those who have left their religion, are considering leaving their religion, and/or are encountering challenges with friends, family, classmates or co-workers due to religious differences. If you're already comfortable leading a secular lifestyle, you can also come to offer emotional support or advice, or just to enjoy a sense of social community that religions often offer. Moderated by volunteers from the Virtual and Ottawa Branch of Centre for Inquiry Canada (CFIC), LWR meets on the first Sunday of every month from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm EST. To join, log into Zoom: Hosted by Critical Links 8:00 pm: A Discussion About Food Security, Food Waste and New Solutions in Manitoba with Ted Dzogan
At Food Rescue Grocery Store, we think good food should stay out of the landfill. So we’re bringing a new-to-Brandon approach to food security: providing rescued food at a low price for all. The Food Rescue Grocery Store was established in Brandon, MB, in 2021 as a community response to food waste, community building, food accessibility, and equitable societal participation. We promote and advocate the human right to food, obtained with dignity, respect, and participation; promoting local solutions for food security; reducing food waste; and supporting community growth and integration. May 24, 2026(1 event) 8:00 pm: CFIC Town Hall Meeting #13 – “Addiction in Canada” –
CFIC is continuing our series of Town Hall gatherings. Once a month, we gather on Zoom to discuss a selected topic relevant to our society and our democracy. Join this month’s discussion via Zoom on May 24th at 8 pm ET. Addiction in Canada is a major public health issue, driven by high alcohol use, widespread cannabis consumption, and a severe opioid crisis.
Addiction is closely tied to mental health, with about 50% of people seeking substance use help also experiencing a mental health condition. In the upcoming town hall, we will discuss “addiction in Canada” and its impact on society and individuals. Please join the discussion on Zoom on the 24th of May at 8:00 p.m. ET. These meetings are not planned as webinars; the format will be a moderated discussion in which attendees debate. Our objective is to nurture a culture of respectful and open-minded discussion, thereby fostering democratic and participatory citizenship. We will provide a background document to introduce the topic and will also include some questions, available for download from the CFIC website, a week ahead of the Town Hall meeting.
