For the next in our “Teach the Controversy” speaker series, CFI Ottawa is pleased to present physician, author, musician and activist Ali Rizvi discussing his recent book, The Atheist Muslim.
Dr Rizvi aims to give a voice to the growing number of freethinkers and secularists in the Muslim world. “The Atheist Muslim” recounts Dr. Rizvi’s journey from religion to reason, and his efforts to create a platform for others like him who wish to lose their religion without losing their broader cultural identity. Building on this incredible story, this talk will bring to light the physical danger, censorship, ostracism and other challenges faced by secular and atheist Muslims, including those residing in the West. Dr. Rizvi will also dissect the term “Islamophobia” and speak about the need for one to be able to criticize Islam, without resorting to anti-Muslim bigotry. There will be a booksigning following the talk. Copies of The Atheist Muslim are available for pre-order with your ticket purchase; a limited number will be available for sale at the event.
